EL PASO, Texas Hope among asylum seekers bloomed in Mexican border cities Thursday after President Joe Biden s administration halted the controversial Remain in Mexico program and said it would review asylum policies. The truth is that they are now filled with hope, said Miguel Gonzalez, who runs the Pasos de Fe shelter in Juárez, Mexico, where migrant families enrolled in the program have been living for months. They hear that there will be opportunities, or at least they hope there will be.
CBP to Build New Migrant Entry Center in Advance of Biden Policies
22 Jan 2021
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced the approval to build a new soft-sided processing center. The announcement comes as President Joe Biden announced the cancellation of Trump administration policies that are now expected to create a surge in illegal immigration.
Former CBP Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan told Breitbart Texas the building process began “in anticipation of potentially losing Title 42 and/or the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP)” when Biden took office. The new administration’s stated goals combined with “the increased flow of migrants trying to illegally enter due to the perception related to Biden’s open border policies,” he stated.

In December 2020, President-elect Joe Biden said he is in favor of reversing his predecessor Donald Trump’s restrictive immigration policies but things could not be changed overnight since an effort to find a quick solution could complicate the issue more. His thought found backing from two of his top administrative officials waiting to take charge: domestic policy advisor Susan Rice and national security advisor Jake Sullivan.
The incoming Biden administration’s stance on the immigration issues became clear once again on Sunday, January 17, when one of its officials told a Honduran migrant caravan heading towards the US to halt its journey because “things at the border won’t change overnight”.

A timely reversal
January 14, 2021
The United States has made a commitment – by law and by treaty – to protect people who come to this country fleeing persecution. But the Trump administration relentlessly attacked people seeking protection and the very concept of asylum. It is now nearly impossible for anyone to secure asylum, no matter how strong their claim or fear. President-elect Biden has the opportunity to restore our asylum system, as he has promised to do. Unwinding Trump’s harmful and unlawful policies will be just the start to making our system more efficient, fair, and humane. A reversal is simply not enough we must build our asylum system back better.
