Reply Baltimore, MD – The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children s Hospital at Sinai today debuts its brand-new Newborn Care Center, a state-of-the-art, family-centered unit offering innovative and nurturing care for premature infants with the most critical needs as well as for full-term babies. Designed with the latest hybrid approach to promote optimal infant care and family support, the new center includes 21 beds in the renovated and expanded Jennifer Gandel Kachura Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a six-bed Well-Baby Nursery. The hospital held a virtual celebration on Thursday, February 11 that featured video tours, patient and family stories, and then-and-now photos of NICU graduates.

Families as Lifesavers is being funded through the Drugs Deaths Taskforce A NEW project which helps the families of people at risk of dying through drugs will start work in early January. Families as Lifesavers, which is being funded through the Drugs Deaths Taskforce, helps family members to increase their understanding of drug addiction while building coping strategies and helping them to continue to support their relative. The project, run by Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs, is one of a number of schemes funded through the taskforce. Minister for Drugs Policy Angela Constance said: “Finding out that a loved one is using drugs, and might even be at risk of losing their lives to their addiction, is one of the toughest things any family can face. People want to know the best way to respond, and what they might be able to do to help. They also want to feel they are not alone.

More than two-in-five (43%) Scots who already drink at increasing or higher risk levels - more than 14 units a week - reported they are now quaffing more than they would usually, according to the study by alcohol education charity Drinkaware. It has raised concerns that many Scots are putting their health at risk, with some risking serious and long-term damage to their health, if increased pandemic drinking trends are not reversed.
