A whole different ballgame: PHR quietly expands hours into the evening

Since June 21, the safe consumption site has been operating through the evenings. The soft opening gave executive director Jason Mercredi time to prepare, but the expansion to hours from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. was formally announced Monday. “It’s nice to be open in the evenings. We’ve been able to stop a number of overdoses from happening in and around the building. Also, they’ll have a place to go in the evening,” he said Monday before giving an example of one recent incident at the PHR site.

Mattoon, IL, USA / MyRadioLink.com For Immediate Release – May 14, 2021 Administration to Transition Students Out of Northern Illinois Academy Following Findings of State-Commissioned Equip for Equality Report AURORA – The State of Illinois is transitioning all students in its care from Northern Illinois Academy to alternate placements, following an Equip for Equality report commissioned by the state in January 2021 to review the facility’s practices. The Illinois State Board of Education conducted its review of the facility. Based on that review, it announced today that effective August 6, 2021, it will assign a status of “non-approved” to NIA for education services. NIA is an 87-bed private youth residential treatment facility and therapeutic day school located in Aurora and operated by Sequel Youth and Family Services.
