At least one indoor Family Entertainment Center (FEC) is appreciative of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision Wednesday to allow FECs to open at 25% capacity March 26, but it may be too little too late for some, said David Breen, CEO of the PiNZ location at Sangertown Square in New Hartford.
“I am happy that some movement by the governor has been made, but pushing our reopening out five weeks is like dangling a carrot in our face,” Breen said. “What are 5 weeks going to do? Meanwhile, more entertainment venues could permanently go out of business during that time.”
PiNZ, a bowling alley, was not able to reopen under state guidelines last summer, noted Breen. PiNZ has four other locations, three in Massachusetts and one in New Hampshire.

Wheelerâs Family Entertainment Center in Moss Bluff has closed its doors. It was the last remaining skating rink in Southwest Louisiana. In a way, it marks the end of a way of having fun and getting a little exercise future generations will never know.
âWeâre ready to get out, but I cried when I posted the news,â said Greta Laborde Huval. The memories just came flooding back.â
Her husbandâs parents, Harold and the late Dorothy Huval, built the family entertainment center in 1983.
âI thought it was a good investment,â the 94-year-old Harold Huval said.
Greta, and her husband David, leased the building before taking full ownership in 1992. Parents who brought their children to skate were once skaters at the rink themselves.
