County scraps plans for mass vaccine clinic | News, Sports, Jobs

bkreitzer@lewistownsentinel.com MIFFLINTOWN–While giving an update on the state of COVID-19 vaccination availability in Juniata County, emergency services director Allen Weaver announced the county no longer has plans to conduct any mass clinics. According to Weaver, due to the shortage of vaccines the Department of Health and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) decided to streamline the vaccine distribution through healthcare providers at strategically located large vaccination sites rather than county clinics. “I know there has been a lot of conversation about county clinics and a lot expectation. We had expected it as well, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.”

Community clinic should be ready with more vaccines Mar 3, 2021 MIFFLINTOWN – Planning is currently taking place for a potential COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic in Juniata County according to the Emergency Services director Allen Weaver. During the regular meeting to the Juniata County commissioners Tuesday, Weaver said the county is in the early stages of planning for a community vaccination site so they are ready once more vaccinations become available. According to Weaver, the county is partnering with Family Practice Center, who will manage the vaccines and handle administering the shots. Weaver said they are in the process of deciding on a location and looking for the volunteers to help with the clinic. A timeframe will be set once a location is selected, volunteers are in place, and vaccinations become available.
