EMERGENCY doctors who are unpaid and on call 24/7 have been awarded £1,000. Cumbria Health on Call granted BEEP doctors in Cumbria the cash after team member Sarah Taylor-Howe spotted their funding campaign. The BEEP service has 16 doctors who are all unpaid and on call 24/7 – even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many of them have been working in hospitals and the local community. Ms Taylor-Howe said: “The charity is a long-standing local Cumbrian charity, with very similar values to Cumbria Health on Call. “The doctors are unpaid local GPs and A&E consultants working to support other partner services. “I have only ever heard positive feedback about the service they provide, and their quick arrival at scenes have saved many lives.”

BEEP doctors has been awarded £1,000 from Cumbria Health on Call.
Cumbria Health on Call is a social enterprise and established the Social Enterprise Awards Fund in 2016, to support its staff who wanted to be involved in charity events for local causes.
Team member Sarah Taylor-Howe applied to the fund after seeing the recent BEEP Doctors funding campaign.
The BEEP service has been established in Cumbria since 1994 and offers skilled emergency doctors to help at the scenes of accident.
The 16 doctors are all unpaid and are on call 24/7 â even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many of them have been working in hospitals and the local community.
A former Barrow GP receptionist has retired after 30 years in healthcare across south Cumbria. Julie Eldem, 64, started work as a receptionist at a GPs in Barrow in 1993 and then worked evening and night shifts for 10 years for the Furness Emergency Doctor Service, a co-operative which provided out of hours cover to give GPs and their families some relief. Later she worked for Bay Call, another out-of-hours GP service provider, where she played a major part in the development of its rota system for GPs, despatchers, nurses, drivers and receptionists. She then worked for Cumbria Health On Call (CHOC) in a rota administration role.
Online health support for those caring for five to 19-year-olds

Cumbriaâs public health nurses are holding online support sessions to offer health advice for those caring for children and young people aged between five and 19 years old.
The sessions are held each Tuesday and Thursday via a live video link that is private and secure.
During the consultation the nurse will assess the health query presented and provide support and advice.
Appointments can be made by calling the Cumbria Health On Call team on 0300 30 34 365 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Yvonne Rowlinson, clinical lead public health 5-19 nursing service at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, said: âWe have always ran an online service to offer support to anyone who cares for a child or young person aged from five to 19 years old but with the latest national lockdown we want to make people more aware that we are here to help.
