A MAN sent an explicit picture of his genitals to a teenage girl, a court heard. Nigel Burton was hauled before the courts after the 16-year-old girl told her mother of the shocking image, which was accompanied by a lewd message. The 36-year-old, of Southend Road in Penrith, sent the messages to the girl via Facebook, the court heard. She told him her age but he kept sending her indecent communications, North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Carlisle was told. The victim told police that she was disgusted and shocked. Burton pleaded guilty to sending a message which was of an indecent or grossly offensive nature for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient on March 14, 2020 at Penrith.

Dalton man found with flick knife at petrol station in Windermere sentenced

A MAN from Dalton escaped a prison sentence despite having a flick knife in his possession in a public place, a court heard. Christopher Kenneth Johnson, of Lancaster Street, was searched by police at Troutbeck Bridge Filling Station in Windermere after they smelled cannabis coming from the car he was in and found a flick knife, South Cumbria Magistrates Court was told. The 37-year-old said that this was a novelty lighter purchased in Spain and he was at the petrol station to get a new lighter as that one had run out of gas. Mr Lee Dacre, solicitor for the prosecution, said: You push a button on the knife, and it flicks up and fixes into place.

Man fined for stealing headphones

A Whitehaven man has been fined after being found guilty of theft of a set of headphones from a town store. Aaron Brian Jones, 24, of The Gardens, Coach Road,Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to the offence of theft at magistrates court on March 30. Jones was found to have stolen JVC headphones to the value of £30 belonging to B&M Homestore, Flatt Walks, Whitehaven, Cumbria. Contrary to section 1(1) and 7 of the theft act 1968. North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court, sitting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, Hall Park, Workington, heard that the headphones were taken on March 2 2021. A collection order was made, and Jones was given until April 27 to pay a fine and costs which totalled £229 to be paid.
