A NEW driver has lost his licence after driving with no insurance. Corey Leigh Barker, of Sutherland Street, Barrow, was caught by police driving his Audi A3 along Park Road, Barrow, on 31 October 2020 with no insurance. The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on Thursday where he received six points and a £419 fine. As Barker had been handed six points within two years of passing his test, the Barrovian s licence has now been revoked. The court heard that Barker was unaware that his insurance policy was no longer valid before he was stopped by police.
A KENDAL man has accepted he was in the wrong after pleading guilty to unnecessary obstruction of a road and using abusive words. Mr Martin Crossley, Valley View Cottage, Helsington, Kendal, appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on Tuesday as he was given a £635 fine for the two offences. On 22 November 2020, the 51-year-old was arrested by PC Henry after obstructing Library Road, Kendal, used abusive words and made obscene gestures towards the police officer. Representing himself, Crossley, whose last offence was in 2012, said: I accept I shouldn t have said what I said. I know I was in the wrong and I apologise for that. I explained to the police officer that I was waiting for my daughter and grandson who were in McDonald s, but you can t park anywhere near it because the spaces are always full.
Councillor Peter Little An Allerdale councillor has been charged by police after reports of threatening behaviour in the early hours of Saturday morning. Peter Little, 36, of Grasmere Terrace, Maryport, represents the Maryport South ward on Allerdale Council on behalf of the Allerdale Independents. Mr Little was charged on three counts of using threatening and abusive words with intent to cause alarm or distress and threatening to damage or destroy property after police were called to the address at 12.33am on May 1. Asked whether Mr Little would be suspended, Councillor Paul Scott, who is the leader of the Allerdale Independents on the borough council, said: “As a group we will have that discussion.”
It follows an incident which led to a pedestrian having to have a car lifted off her. The female pedestrian in her 40’s involved in the collision, which took place on April 13 on West View Road, was taken to hospital with an ankle injury after being freed from underneath the vehicle. Cumbria Police have now confirmed Shauna Adams, 53, of Ainslie Street, Barrow, has been charged with driving while over the prescribed limit of alcohol. She is currently on bail and will appear at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on May 12.
