These three kārearea (native New Zealand falcon) chicks are now fully fledged and have left their Wānaka nest site in the first major success story for the Kārearea Conservation Project. The nest of the threatened species, also known as the native New Zealand falcon, was spotted in trees near a public car park and walkway on the outskirts of Wānaka, in October. The birds are known to aggressively defend their nests, so the project co-ordinators worked with the Department of Conservation and Queenstown Lakes District Council to put a wide cordon around the area. Interactions with the birds could be traumatic for people, who might find themselves with a cut to the head, but the consequences for the bird of hitting a hard hat, such as a bike helmet, were potentially far worse, Mackie said.

This rating revaluation is completed by Quotable Value (QV) on behalf of Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC), providing an updated rating value for the property which is used by the Council in setting rates for the next three years.

In September 2020, Queenstown Lakes District Council
(QLDC) conducted its third Quality of Life (QoL) Survey. The
results have now been released and can be found

high levels of participation showed people were keen to tell
