A West Australian man has tested positive for COVID-19 just days after being denied entry into the state and isolating in a local hotel for two days.
The man had travelled from the Philippines and completed two weeks’ hotel quarantine in Queensland before being released on July 17 following three negative tests.
The infected man was refused entry to Perth after flying in from Brisbane.

He then flew to Perth Airport but was refused entry after authorities determined he did not have approval to enter the state, which is required for all Queensland travellers due to an outbreak.

Queensland will not make any changes to the NSW border at this stage, with authorities still satisfied COVID-19 cases are not spreading beyond greater Sydney.
Calls for a hard border with NSW to be reinstated are growing, due to the rising case numbers in greater Sydney, as well as new cases outside that region.
At the weekend it was revealed two people tested positive to COVID-19 after staying at a truck stop just over the border in the Tweed Shire last week.

Queensland has held off on any hard border closures with NSW, as Sydney recorded 112 new locally spread cases of coronavirus on Monday, but any Queenslanders in the southern state have been urged to leave as soon as possible.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020, Queensland maintained hard borders with NSW for an extended period, attracting criticism from the NSW and federal governments.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Monday her health experts advised her that despite the rising numbers in NSW, they were confident with the measures in place.
“We are not imposing any further restrictions at this stage. But I am giving everyone notice that we are monitoring this incredibly closely,” the Premier said.
