The Australian National Audit Office is considering an audit into the administration of the Safer Communities Fund overseen by the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.

Cairns tourism operators fear they may not have a viable industry to return to unless they receive ongoing financial assistance from the federal government to help them through to the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
With the JobKeeper package to end in March, they argue a tailored wage subsidy scheme is needed for regions such as Cairns that are more exposed to international tourism than holiday spots within driving distance of capital cities.
Australian tourists have helped, but not covered the gap from no international travellers during the pandemic.Â

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton s office fast-tracked a one-off $880,000 grant proposal to a retail association eight days after it made a $1,500 political donation to the Queensland Liberal National Party at an event Mr Dutton attended for the purpose of personally supporting him.
