QUT Giving Day raises $1.2 million
QUT’s 2021 Giving Day has raised more than $1.2 million, thanks to generous QUT alumni, staff and supporters who have backed a range of student scholarships, research projects, and education and community initiatives.
The event is the university’s major fundraiser of the year and was held on May 20.
Last-minute donations are still coming in, with the tally (as of May 25) now at $1,239,329.
Giving Day’s biggest donor was Dr Greg Creed – a QUT alumnus who gave $225,000 to support QUT’s Indigenous Chair in Creative Industries.
Dr Creed is a QUT Business School alumnus, a former CEO of Taco Bell and Yum! Brands, and long-time supporter of QUT.

We ve both since graduated high school and in April 2020 we were made aware that we could book citizenship tests which we ended up sitting in November because of COVID. The family were invited to attend a citizenship ceremony this year. It was such a weight off our shoulders, Jan-Sari said. We felt at ease and relaxed, as it always felt like something could happen to not achieve it because of the past.
