Queensland now has new laws to ban single-use straws.
Polystyrene foam food containers and cups as well as single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery and plates will all be banned from September 1, 2021 under new legislation passed by Queensland Parliament today (WED?).
Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon said there was overwhelming community support for banning these types of products which were too often discarded thoughtlessly.
“Plastic pollution is spoiling our streets and parks, escaping into our ocean and waterways and killing our iconic wildlife,” Minister Scanlon said.

Brisbane Times reported Ms Camm failed to disclose shareholding in her husband Brendan Webb s consultancy business. Australian Securities and Investments Commission records state Ms Camm is a shareholder of the company Strategic Direction Performance. It has come to my attention that a company and trust which I have an interest was not declared on my register of interest, she said in a statement. I wasn t aware of this, I should have been and I apologise. These entities have not transacted since 2019 as part of a wind down process, they hold no assets and transact no business. During the time I held the position of Deputy Mayor of Mackay Regional Council, these interests were fully disclosed on my register of interest.

An LNP frontbencher has apologised for failing to declare a financial interest to Queensland Parliament, saying she was unaware she owned shares in her husbandâs company.
Former Mackay deputy mayor Amanda Camm, who won the seat of Whitsunday at the October state election, failed to disclose her shareholding in a consultancy business run by her husband, Brendan Webb.
