Cut-price airfares an incentive for open borders: PM Save Share The offer to subsidise 800,000 air fares in a bid to buttress the international tourism sector should stop the states from closing their borders in the event of a coronavirus outbreak, the federal government said. The cut-price ticket offer, which aims to flood regions heavily dependent on international tourism with domestic holidaymakers, pointedly pays half the air fares of 32 interstate flights and only one intrastate flight – that between Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. Prime Minister Scott Morrison leaning out of a Qantas plane on Thursday ahead of announcing the $1.2 billion industry package.
