Five Sydneysiders have been fined $5,000 each and forced in hotel quarantine after they were caught breaching border rules.
The group is accused of making a false declaration before checking into a Surfer’s Paradise hotel.
Queensland Police’s Mark Wheeler says the incident serves as a warning to those wanting to breach border rules that police will follow up on any information they receive.
“If you’re going to come into Queensland from a hotspot and try and game the system, even if you think you’ve gotten through, you should not rest easy, because police will be following on any information they receive,” Mr Wheeler said.
As NSW recorded nine new cases, the Northern Territory declared Sydney was no longer a hot spot and details emerged about how Aussies will receive the vaccine.
