The Building Stronger Homes Roundtable convened by the Insurance Council of Australia and Master Builders Australia has proposed a number of disaster mitigation and resilience initiatives that will help to strengthen existing homes and communities against extreme weather events.

“Confirmation that an Albanese Labor Government will abolish the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) is deeply disappointing and will severely undermine builder’s contribution to economic recovery,” Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia said.

“The ABCC is crucial for the building and construction industry, crucial for the economy and crucial for the entire community,” Denita Wawn said.
“The economic impact of the pandemic cannot be ignored. Just as governments around the country are putting put construction front and centre of their economic recovery plans Labor’s is planning to take the leash off construction union thugs and bullies,” she said.

Record numbers of first home buyers are coming into the market assisted by the government’s HomeBuilder stimulus, which is expected to help spur $50 billion in economic activity.
HomeBuilder grant applications pour in as property owners cash in on government grants
More than 75,00 households across the country have applied for the government s Home Builder grant, designed to boost the economy via residential construction.
New data released today shows that as of December 31 2020, a total of 75,143 applications for the grant had been received.
Of those, around 80 per cent were help to build a new home while the remaining 20 per cent were for extensive renovations or rebuilds.
