Annabel Langbein s vegetable garden is growing slowly in Wanaka. The author s peonies are in full bloom and the roses are out and proud, but the veges are taking their own sweet time. We ve got the first blush of beautiful spring flowers but in the vegetable garden it is really just snow peas, rocket and lettuce. It isn t until late January here that you get the summer harvest, which in Auckland you ll be getting about now.
The Palace manager said: “This Christmas will be very different for everyone, but for those families who are struggling or isolating in their homes, it will be particularly difficult.
“I’ve been immensely proud of The Palace Kitchen and the way our club has come together to support our community. Even if we can bring some small joy to children and families over Christmas, it is something that will make everybody at the club very happy.”
The parcels were delivered by project partner City Harvest to families housed by Croydon Council who have been made homeless or are waiting for permanent housing to become available at a time when the borough is facing extreme demand for services.

I live or work in a care home, what happens now?
Residents and staff do not need to do anything at present but should wait to be contacted by NHS England.
Mr Hancock said he hoped care home residents would start being vaccinated before Christmas. We hope to be vaccinating in care homes before Christmas . but we can only do that as fast as is safe to go, he said.
On December 5, the MHRA approved the way doses of the vaccine would be distributed to care homes and said it will be ready for distribution within the next two weeks.

BERLIN (AP) Several European Union nations moved to banned flights from the UK on Sunday and others were considering similar action, in a bid to block a new strain of coronavirus sweeping across southern England from establishing a strong foothold on the continent.
France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Italy all announced restrictions on UK travel, hours after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that Christmas shopping and gatherings in southern England must be canceled because of rapidly spreading infections blamed on the new coronavirus variant.
