Zagreb Airport ZAGREB, 13 January (Hina) – The national COVID-19 crisis management team on Wednesday adopted new rules for crossing the state border to restrict non-mandatory arrivals in Croatia, especially from countries where a new strain of coronavirus is spreading, such as Great Britain and the South African Republic. The list of those countries will be made by the Croatian Public Health Institute (HZJZ), and special epidemiological measures will apply to travellers from those countries, Davor Božinović, who is the head of the national COVID-19 crisis management team, told a press conference, adding that the decision is not related to citizenship but to the area from which a traveller is coming.

Over the past 24 hours, Croatia has registered 230 new cases of the coronavirus infection, there have been 35 deaths, and the number of active cases is 4,976. There are 2,140 patients in hospitals, 191 of whom are on ventilators. “The number of new infections and hospitalisations is smaller. The lower numbers point to the responsibility of Croatian citizens as well as to the full logic of our measures,” Beroš said at a press conference of the national COVID-19 crisis response team.

Croatia extends COVID-19 measures until end of January

4:48 AM MYT ZAGREB, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) Croatia s national civil protection headquarters announced on Friday an extension of anti-pandemic measures until the end of January. The current measures that include the closure of cafes, bars, and restaurants, and limit public gatherings were imposed on Nov. 28, 2020 and were expected to expire on Jan. 10. Although there is a downward trend in new COVID-19 cases, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic told reporters on Friday that the measures are still necessary due to a high number of hospitalizations and cold weather that could help spread the virus.

443 medical staff, 1,711 retirement home residents vaccinated in Croatia on first day

ZAGREB, Dec 28 (Hina) – Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) director Krunoslav Capak said on Monday 443 medical staff and 1,711 retirement home residents were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Sunday, the first day of vaccination in Croatia. Speaking at a press conference of the national COVID-19 response team, Capak said the vaccine would not be available to family doctors before the second half of January, when the Moderna vaccine was expected and the vaccination of older people would begin. “The Moderna vaccine can stay in a regular fridge for 30 days, whereas the Pfizer vaccine can stay only five days. We believe that will make the work of family doctors considerably easier,” he said, adding that the HZJZ wanted to spare them during the current first stage of immunisation with the Pfizer vaccine.
