That confounded bridge on Stough Road. It was closed again Thursday morning and a host of NCDOT workers were there making repairs.
âApparently, a tractor trailer hit the bridge overnight, damaging the rail and bridge bulkhead,â said Jen Thompson, communications officer with the N.C. Department of Transportation. âSince itâs relatively narrow, our crews opted to close the bridge for safety reasons and more room to work.â
The work was completed by early afternoon and the bridge reopened.
The bridge has been a thorn in the side of residents and travelers in that area for years. Any time there is a heavy rain the bridge is often under water.

Burlington to old Best Buy location. It looks like Burlington is coming to the old Best Buy location at Afton Ridge. If you like me you still call the company Burlington Coat Factory. Coats are only a small portion of their wares these days.
The retailer comes from Burlington, New Jersey. I had always thought it was Burlington, North Carolina.
The company has made no formal announcement about the new location. Sources tell us Burlington plans to open October 29th.
The next question to be answered is what happens to the store at Concord Mills Mall. Weâre told there are no plans to close that location. Burlington at the mall had a renovation in 2018, but it wasnât a major change.

A high demand for houses. It seems like every day someone contacts me or my family about selling our house. For the record, my house is not for sale. I donât want to sell and I donât care if you can pay cash. Good for you.
Some people text you. Others send postcards with a picture of my house on it. Are any of you getting these?

Lots of new houses are being built. From Jan. 1 until June 30, Cabarrus County issued 845 permits for single family homes, according to reports in the Cabarrus Construction Standards office. The total value is just under $223.3 million.
Itâs becoming clear that we have a complex economy that is both boom and bust. Look at how disruptive cyberattacks, weather and health are factors. Still new businesses continue to come. Weâre pretty lucky. Consider how little business is going to the eastern and western parts of the state.

Another bank in Concord. Chase Bank is building a new branch at the corner of Concord Parkway and Davidson Drive (Mr. Câs, Bebo s Charcoal & Beef and Harris-Teeter are nearby). It will be in Colonial Square on the site where the old Concord ABC Store was located. The building was torn down in the past few weeks.
