It took four minutes last week for Australian architect Simon Anderson to secure his flame-zone rated home in New South Wales’ Megalong Valley so it would survive a fire front if the family had to flee to safety. In that time, he dropped the verandah’s three-by nine-metre wide roof, which doubles as a flame zone screen if needed, and slid other screens across glass windows.
