The Philippine Skating Union on Facebook also congratulated Macaraeg, the first Filipino speed skater to compete in the Winter Youth Olympics, for joining UCLA, a school known for its athletics program mostly on basketball, football, and track and field. Macaraeg, who used to play iced hockey in his youth, may maximize his speed skating at UCLA through the help of its athletic training and resources though it is still unknown if he has joined a club yet. UCLA’s winter sports include ice hockey and figure skating. Macaraeg attended the Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School and currently trains under Ukrainian coach Serhiy Lifyrenko in New York’s lone speed skating club Flushing Meadows Speed Skating Club.

ISU, Infront Ink Extension - Federations Focus 04/07/21 (ATR) The International Skating Union (ISU) extends its media rights agreement with Infront for another four seasons. The deal includes coverage in China from the 2020/21 season. ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2021 (ISU) The extension runs from 2023/24 until the end of the 2026/27 season and includes media rights across all territories worldwide excluding Canada, Japan, Korea and the United States. The partnership includes the annual ISU World, European and Four Continents Championships in Speed Skating, Short Track Speed Skating and Figure Skating, and World Synchronized Skating Championships. It also covers all ISU World Cup Speed Skating, ISU World Cup Short Track and ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating competitions.

Macaraeg hopes to bring spotlight to speed skating in PH

Macaraeg, the first Filipino speed skater to compete in the 2020 Lausanne Winter Youth Olympics, considers himself as a role model after representing the country at a high level. “So I just try to be the best person I can be so I can inspire other people in my country to try short speed skating,” said​ the 17-year-old​ Macaraeg​ ​in ISU Short Track’s In the Spotlight interview.
