Allegedly running away from police twice and fighting with officers after a traffic stop has led to a North Liberty man’s arrest.
North Liberty Police say a staff member at Red’s Alehouse on North Dubuque Street altered them just after 12:15 Sunday morning that an intoxicated customer had gotten into his car and driven away. An arriving officer initiated a traffic stop on the 2009 Chevy Silverado in question after observing it driving over a curb. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Matthew Benge of Rachael Street, allegedly got out of his vehicle and tried running away before being captured by police. Investigators say Benge admitted to coming from a bar and showed signs of intoxication. He allegedly showed impairment on field sobriety tests and refused breath testing.

A Solon man faces charges that he was intoxicated when he drove his girlfriend’s car into another vehicle and a house.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Dustin Paulson of West Short Street was reportedly “drunk and out of control” at his residence just before 10pm Wednesday when his girlfriend’s daughter locked him outside. Paulson allegedly banged on the door while screaming, then took his girlfriend’s 1986 Chevy C20 truck and crashed it into another vehicle. Police say he then crashed it into a house.
Arriving deputies made contact with Paulson as he was hiding in a shed behind the house. They say he was uncooperative and had to be wrestled to the ground. Paulson allegedly smelled of ingested alcohol, admitted to being at a bar earlier, and showed multiple signs of intoxication. Deputies say they had to fight with Paulson again once they arrived at the Johnson County Jail.
