London’s abrupt move into Tier 3, meaning that theatres have had to close their shows with very little notice, has decimated a slowly recovering sector. Producer Kenny Wax had just reopened his musical, SIX, at the Lyric Theatre in the West End – only to get the terrible news that it must shut again.
“We’d heard fragments of gossip over the weekend, from those in the industry in touch with the DCMS, that it might possibly be our last show this Friday, following a tier change,” recalls Wax. “But it came as a big shock on Monday that it could happen so quickly.” Last night was SIX’s final outing – for now, at least.
