AN URGENT inquiry will begin on Tuesday to investigate whether racism in the NHS impacts quality maternity care.
The inquiry, which will be supported by the UK charity Birthrights, will examine the issue, and consider human rights.
A recent report published by MBRACE-UK (Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the country) revealed that black women were four times more likely than white women to die in pregnancy or childbirth in the UK while women from Asian ethnic backgrounds face twice the risk.
