New Gold receives New Afton B3 zone mining permit

New Gold Inc. (TSX: NGD) has been granted its mining permit for the B3 zone of the New Afton mine, located west of Kamloops, British Columbia.
On Tuesday, the company announced that the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation has issued the Mines Act permit to enable mining of the B3 zone.

With the receipt of the B3 permit, ore extraction activities are set to begin this quarter and ramp up over the year.

New Democrat MLA Katrine Conroy says students in School District 20 will be at the forefront of a zero-emission movement as one of the district’s new school buses is an electric vehicle.
“People across our communities are concerned about climate change, but sometimes the changes we need to make can seem daunting. With this new emissions-free bus, we’re investing in a future for families and their children where riding to school is also good for the environment.”
The district is one of 13 across the province that have purchased a total of 18 electric school buses which will begin operating in B.C. communities by the end of this school year.

May 10, 2021 - 7:31 AM Seven electric school buses will soon be available to some school districts in the Thompson-Okanagan with the cost subsidized by a B.C. government subsidy. Thirteen school districts in B.C. have purchased a total of 18 electric school buses that will begin operating by the end of this school year. The new buses will provide service for about 1,300 K-12 students per day to and from school. “By shifting gears from diesel to electric school buses, these K-12 students are benefiting from our government’s work to create healthier and more sustainable learning environments across B.C.,” Premier John Horgan said in a press release issued, May 6. “Electric school buses produce zero emissions and also support CleanB.C.’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by the year 2030, helping build a cleaner, healthier future for all of us.”
