AL empowered people bringing back continuation of democracy: PM 871 DHAKA, Dec 29, 2020 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said Awami League (AL) has empowered people bringing back continuation of democracy by ending the conspiracy and military dictatorship that has reached country’s development into momentum. “No consistency of democracy was in the country rather politics of conspiracy, killing, coup etc was initiated and military dictators came to power one after another that halted the development activities,” she said. The premier made this remark at a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) joining from her official residence Ganabhaban here. The meeting was held at NEC Conference Room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to clear the 8th Five Year Plan for 2021-2025.

The draft text provides for ‘special and differential treatment’ (SDT) provisions for developing countries and least developed countries. During the meeting that was held on December 2, 2020, India had proposed exempting certain developing countries from subsidy bans which met certain volume and gross national income (GNI) thresholds.

The United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) – UNOSAT convened a workshop in Mozambique to enhance the capacity of expert and policymakers on the interpretation and utilisation of geospatial technologies. The workshop aimed to demystify geospatial technologies and raising awareness of the vital role of supporting Mozambique’s development efforts.  It was a part of a pilot programme, which was earlier also organized in Uganda and The Gambia and provided participants with the skills and knowledge to leverage geospatial technologies for improved disaster risk reduction management, climate change, and natural resources management.

UNIS/OS/543   22 December 2020 United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries join forces to expand access to and use of satellite data among LDCs VIENNA, 22 December (United Nations Information Service) - The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the UN Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) - UNTCBLDC - exchanged letters agreeing to cooperate on building capacity to access and use satellite data among LDCs. The parties will focus on enhancing the capacity of experts and supporting policy- and decision makers in LDCs to access and use all types of space infrastructure, data, and applications.
