Providers look to predictive modeling to help rebuild finances in 2021
After a challenging 2020, health systems are looking to deploy strategies for recovery, especially to bolster financial health. One strategy health executives are considering is investing in predictive modeling technology that can help them manage patient demand and outcomes in the coming year.

Fluctuating patient demand in the midst of a once-in-a-century pandemic made it hard for health systems to manage their finances in 2020. To help turn the financial tide this year, health executives are looking to invest in predictive modeling technology.
In fact, 74% of health executives responding to a PwC survey last August and September said their organizations would invest more in predictive modeling in the coming year, signaling their keen interest. These tools can be used in several ways, from predicting clinical outcomes to identifying patient preferences to enhancing provider workflows.
Johnson & Johsnon’s Covid-19 vaccine is now the third one granted FDA emergency authorization. The company expects to deliver enough vials for vaccinating more than 200 million people in the U.S. by the middle of this year.

Otsuka launches pivotal trial of digital therapeutics for depression
Otsuka Pharmaceutical is partnering with Click Therapeutics to launch a remote clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of digital therapeutics in reducing depressive symptoms.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical is launching a virtual study to see if digital therapeutics can reduce depression symptoms.
It’s the next step in a partnership between the Tokyo-based drugmaker and Click Therapeutics, a digital health startup that is developing programs for smoking cessation, depression and insomnia.
They plan to enroll up to 540 patients in a randomized, controlled trial that will test the digital therapeutic’s efficacy in patients that are taking antidepressants. The remote trial will be conducted using Verily’s Project Baseline platform.

Mercy, Humana partner to expand access to virtual, value-based care
The health system and payer are joining forces to offer Medicare Advantage patients access to Mercy s telehealth center. They also plan to implement a value-based payment model, tying reimbursement for Mercy clinicians to care quality measures.

On the heels of a coordinated care agreement with Anthem, St. Louis-based Mercy is partnering with another health insurer.
On Thursday, the health system announced it was entering into an agreement with Louisville, Kentucky-based Humana to expand patient access to virtual health resources.
Per the new agreement, Humana’s Medicare Advantage members who are patients at Mercy facilities and physician practices will gain in-network access to Mercy Virtual. Staffed with more than 300 clinicians, Mercy Virtual offers 24/7 telehealth services, including virtual primary care at home.
