Mountain View Police Department investigators are seeking the public’s help with identifying the killer of a Santa Clara County jail inmate, the first murder of its kind within the walls of a county detention center.
Wallace
Michael Duayne Wallace, 20, died April 27, 2000, just days before his scheduled release from the now-defunct Men’s Mountain View Work Furlough center, according to a police department press release. He was serving time for selling drugs.
Although an inmate, Wallace worked as an employee at the center and was responsible for ensuring other inmates checked in and out when they entered and left the facility, the press release stated. While on clean-up duty and mopping a hallway at approximately 10 p.m., Wallace turned to face the entrance of the building and someone shot him in the chest.
