Criminal money going to worthwhile projects - apply now

ORGANISATIONS across Cumbria are being invited to apply for up to £2,500 in funding to support projects to help tackle substance misuse. The funding is available through Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall s property fund, which sees money confiscated from criminals and placed back into communities to help reduce crime. Mr McCall said: I am really keen to support projects all across Cumbria that help support those who are battling their substance misuse as well as projects that aim to prevent vulnerable young people either developing an addiction or becoming involved in the distribution of drugs. “Drugs-related crime is a national issue and I believe that, as a community, we can work together to tackle this issue locally.

Cumbria Constabulary issues e-scooter warning

CUMBRIA Constabulary has urged people to fully understand the law before buying or riding an electric scooter following a ‘surge of anti-social behaviour’ involving the vehicles. E-scooters are illegal to use on roads, footpaths, cycle tracks/lanes, bridleways, or byways and privately owned scooters can only be ridden legally on private land with the owner s consent. E-scooters have become increasingly popular after the Government permitted rental scheme trials in several UK cities including Birmingham last year. However, while the use of rental e-scooters is now legal in some parts of the UK, the force has reminded people that it remains against the law to ride a privately owned e-scooter in any public place in the UK.
