SIR – I am the CEO of a small-to-medium enterprise that trades almost entirely in Europe. A hard Brexit holds no fears for us. Indeed, our market share in Europe continues to expand month by month. So I was astounded by the insipid helplessness of other CEOs (“What would a no-deal Brexit mean for business?”, telegraph.co.uk, December 11).
Here’s my advice to shareholders. Fire your CEO and the board if they haven’t already configured the business for a hard Brexit.
Fire them if they only offer products and services that are so unremarkable that they can’t withstand ordinary World Trade Organisation tariffs.

You might not have planned to eat your Christmas lunch or dinner in a greenhouse or tent, but for those of us who usually celebrate on December 25 with a slap-up meal out, that might well be a viable option.
This year, heated outdoor areas, private igloos, covered terraces and tents are de rigueur for any venue that has the space to erect them, and will be popular choices for those hoping to enjoy a Covid-secure drink or dinner on Christmas Day.
The crash happened on Charlton Road in Shepton Mallet at around 12 noon today (December 12). The road is currently closed and drivers are being urged to avoid the area. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: Officers are at the scene of a serious injury collision involving two cars - affecting Charlton Park Road and the B3139 in Radstock. One woman has been taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with serious injuries. A closure is in place so please use alternative routes. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue also attended the incident to help free the woman from her car.
A BOATING couple who have spent a decade travelling through Asia have returned home to Somerset and Wiltshire to capture the changing moods of the Kennet & Avon Canal through the seasons. Authors Sebastien and Louise Tickner have captured exclusively on film an intimate portrait of the boating community at the western end of the canal. It spans the open vistas of the Pewsey Vale to the wooded hills of the Limpley Stoke Valley, observing a community that is quite unlike any other.
