British comedian Bill Bailey has revealed how his time filming Patriot Brains and touring his stage show in New Zealand filled him with joy. And amazingly, it was a simple cup of coffee consumed inside a cafe – a pleasure that had been denied him during the long months of lockdown in the UK – that made him realise he was a lucky man. “Honestly,” says the 56-year-old entertainer, “I felt overwhelmed, almost emotional about the sheer normality of this experience which has been forbidden to us in the UK for so long. I was sitting down in a cafe having a coffee on a balmy morning, and there were people around not wearing masks or having to socially distance. I just couldn’t take it all in.”
