We knew we had to do something,” says Athakhanh. They discussed it with other Asian women business owners, including Tina Nguyen of Ba Bellies and Jiyeon Lee of Heirloom Market. And together, they came up with an idea for a grazing box that women chefs across Atlanta’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community could contribute to. The full proceeds from the box, which retailed for $75, are being donated to a fund through Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta that directly benefits the families of the spa shooting victims.

Kuro Restaurant Serving Japanese Soul Food From Chef Todd Richards and Josh Lee Replaces Hazel Jane s on the Beltline, Atlanta

A new restaurant from Lake & Oak Neighborhood BBQ owners Todd Richards and Joshua Lee called Kuro replaces Hazel Jane’s wine bar this spring at the Edge complex along the Eastside Beltline trail. Hazel Jane’s closed last September after less than a year. The closure was partially due to the financial troubles stemming from the ongoing health crisis. Located next to chef Kevin Gillespie’s restaurant Cold Beer, Kuro will focus on seafood and serve a mix of Japanese fare and ingredients fused with Soul food dishes. Both chefs say they have great “respect” for Japanese cuisine and experience with recipe development and the cooking of Japanese foods.
