Waynesboro s longtime mayor faces a challenge in the May 18 primary election.
The winner of the primary will effectively win the office, barring a write-in campaign, because there is no Democratic candidate.
In Waynesboro, the mayor s primary responsibility is to oversee the police department. The elected official also serves as the key ceremonial figure for the borough.
We asked each candidate the same five questions. Their submitted answers are below, with only light editing for clarity.

Why are you running for mayor of Waynesboro?
I am running for mayor to continue the work that we are doing. In my opinion, we have the best police dept in the county. Also, the public relations with the community has been outstanding and I wish to continue the same.
This winter, the Poconos have often seen temperatures plummet below freezing.
December saw an average low temperature of 27 degrees Fahrenheit at night in Stroudsburg. January saw an average of 25 degrees.
Meanwhile the first two weeks of February have barely reached an average temperature above freezing. The lowest nighttime temperature clocked in at 5 degrees on Feb. 10.
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, people experiencing homelessness have a much higher risk than the general population of developing exposure-related conditions such as hypothermia and frostbite.
These conditions can be immediately life threatening and may also increase the risk of dying from unrelated conditions in the future.

In response to the severe cold weather event, the City of Austin is partnering with multiple governmental and public agencies including Travis County, Capital Metro, the Austin Independent School District, the University of Texas, and Austin Community College to provide critical services to the community.

Activation of emergency services are occurring within the health and safety guidelines required for COVID-19.

AUSTIN, Texas - The City of Austin, Travis County, and community partners have activated 24-hour cold weather shelters across the city to protect people without housing from potentially deadly weather conditions forecasted for the coming days in the Central Texas area. Activation of emergency services are occurring within the health and safety guidelines required for COVID-19.
The city says that moving forward, cold weather shelters will be operating 24 hours a day for as long as conditions dictate. Those sheltering will be offered the opportunity to remain during the day and the upcoming nights.
