One Indian among 25 new IOC Young Leaders join Olympic programme By IANS|   Published: 1st February 2021 11:59 pm IST Lausanne, Feb 1 : The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday announced the selection of 25 new IOC Young Leaders, Rishav Bhowmik of India, who will leverage the power of sport to make a positive difference in their communities. Coming from 25 countries and five continents, these future leaders will build sustainable, sport-focused social businesses from ideation to fruition, supported by weekly learning modules and leadership opportunities. The final 25 candidates were selected from amongst 350 applicants, all with a background in or a clear passion for sport. The list of selected 25 Young Leaders is balanced in terms of universality and diversity, with 13 female and 12 male candidates, from 25 countries across five continents, and includes countries that have not yet been represented in the programme.

Here, we speak to them about their journey to the YOG and their experiences in Lausanne. How do you reflect on your time at the YOG? Grunde Buraas: “I would say that it was a fantastic experience and with the current situation [regarding COVID-19], I think about how lucky we were that it happened in January. It could have not happened, but we were fortunate to go away and have that experience and Olympic spirit and we played very well!”

But I actually managed to train more than I used to, now that I have finished school. Anniversary of Lausanne 2020 Opening Ceremony marked Saturday, 9 January 2021 Olympic Games executive director Christophe Dubi has said Lausanne 2020 provided an opportunity to educate and empower young people, as the one-year anniversary of the Winter Youth Olympic Games was marked. Competition took place from January 9 to 22 and attracted more than 1,800 young athletes from around the world. Lausanne 2020 said a total of 640,000 people attended events, including sports competitions and the Lausanne en Jeux! festival which accompanied the Games. Organisers also claim the Games were watched by an estimated audience of more than 150 million people worldwide. Lausanne 2020 was broadcast in 191 territories by 73 rights holders, who transmitted almost 2,700 hours of linear coverage.
