UPDATE Feb. 22: Thomas Roland Eastman was found healthy and safe in an assisted-living facility. The Winter Garden Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 88-year-old Thomas Roland Eastman. A family member who lives out of state requested a well check on the man who resides at Lot 195 of the Winter Garden RV Resort, 13905 W. Colonial Drive, Winter Garden but Eastman was not there. The family member has not seen or heard from Eastman since Wednesday, Feb. 10. The missing man has a pacemaker and has been having difficulty finding his way around lately, his family said. Eastman is a white male, five feet eight inches and 160 pounds with white hair and hazel eyes. A silver 2017 Nissan Versa with the Florida tag EQTW16 is registered to Eastman and has not been seen at the residence since Feb. 10, police said.

Winter Garden police investigating break-ins at small businesses WINTER GARDEN, Fla - Winter Garden Police are investigating business break-ins along West Colonial in Winter Garden. Police say China Wok, Moon Salon, and its attached business Love at First Sip were the businesses targeted. They’re investigating whether any other businesses were broken into. Investigators tell FOX 35 it was mostly cash and small items stolen from the businesses, but this is just insult to injury for these small businesses already struggling during the pandemic. They’re doing their best to try and stay open and do what they can to survive and for someone to break into small businesses like this, it’s going to hurt, you know, Captain Scott Allen with the Winter Garden Police Department said. They have to pay to repair the damage and whatever items were taken.

Many of their descendants continue to break barriers. Charles Alexander King broke barriers in the city of Winter Garden when he was hired in 1967 as the first black officer with the city’s police department. He served his community of east Winter Garden and walked the beat until 1970, when he returned to his previous career at a paper factory. King, a Winter Garden native and a U.S. Army veteran, died Dec. 24, 2020, at the age of 84. Born in 1936 to Joseph and Eddie Mae King, Charles King came from a long line of strong, community-minded men, including a grandfather who barely survived a severe beating by the Ku Klux Klan, said Charles King’s sister, Bernice King Duncan.

2 months ago Share A man was killed early Thursday after several vehicles ran him over as he rode his bike. Winter Garden police are looking for the drivers involved in a traffic homicide that occurred early Thursday morning. Police responded to a call at 5:49 a.m. at the intersection of Ninth and Smith streets regarding a man on a bicycle who had been struck by a vehicle. The man, whose name is being released until family has been notified, was wearing black clothing and riding a black bicycle with no lights, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ad Officers said during the course of the investigation detectives received information that the victim’s estranged husband, Marcelo Felipe, 46, sent messages to friends claiming responsibility for her death.
