Over the weekend in the central mountains of Colorado, three backcountry skiers lost their lives in two separate accidents. On Friday, Jeff Schneider, a veteran ski patroller who had worked on snow safety at Aspen Highlands during the 1970s, was buried in a slide in the Anthracite Range, accessed off Kebler Pass in Gunnison County, while solo skiing.

WINTER PARK, Colo., Dec. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ Just like the rest of us, Santa needs to get outside, reset and recharge before his busiest night of the year. He was recently spotted on the slopes of Winter Park Resort venturing out and tearing through freshly fallen snow. While the reindeer were resting in the warm barn, Winter Park Ski Patrol avalanche dogs, Biskit, Gravy, and Emma, showed Santa around the mountain, taking him down Winter Park s most beloved trails.

Like at Vail Resorts, skiers and snowboarders will soon need reservations to enjoy Winter Park.
The resort announced the news on Tuesday (Dec. 15), stating: This change to our operations is being made to prioritize the health, well-being, and enjoyment of our guests, employees, and community so we can all Shred Another Day this season.
Previously, pass holders were able to treat this ski season normally, save for mask and social distancing requirements.
But starting on Saturday (Dec. 19), pass holders will not be able to hit the slopes without a reservation. An attempt to use the mountain with no reservation may result in loss of access to the resort.

GRANBY Winter Park Resort is launching a reservation system for skiers and riders after opening earlier in December to large crowds.
The new reservation system will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, and passholders will need reservation starting Saturday, Dec. 19.
“The health and well-being of our employees, guests and community remain paramount, and we must manage the number of people in the resort in order to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said Sky Foulkes, Winter Park Resort president and chief operating officer.
Vail Resorts which owns Breckenridge Ski Resort and Keystone Resort in Summit County was the only major resort operator in Colorado to announce a ski reservation system ahead of the season, but Vail Resorts has had its own headaches.
