Dense fog result in school closings and delays, visibility down to a quarter mile

By Jim Measel May 7, 2021 6:23 AM BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Dense fog which moved in during the early morning hours and reduced the visibility at the Branch County Memorial Airport to less than a quarter mile forced school districts to either delay classes on Friday or cancel them altogether. Bronson Community Schools closed for the day. Superintendent Steve Wilson said they closed because they were originally scheduled to have just a half day of classes. Union City Community Schools also closed for Friday. Superintendent Ronna Steele said in a post on the district’s Facebook page, “We have significant fog in our area this morning. We also have a large number of students that are already absent due to quarantine or illness. Considering these factors, I am going to cancel school for today, Friday, May 7th. Please take the time to rest, and we will see everyone Monday.”

Kids Club, Coldwater schools child care program director Gracen Yates

The Daily Reporter Child care is in high demand and Coldwater Community Schools offers the solution of Kids Club Childcare for local residents. Gracen Yates is the new director of Kids Club and a 2017 Coldwater High School graduate. She is passionate about early childhood education, but after a few years in a Head Start classroom, Yates realized she wanted to do more to help the whole family.  When the Kids Club position opened she applied with the goal to reach more than just a child during the time under their care. “I like this because it involves the family,” Yates said.

Commisioners authorize Norman enter into 911 tower negotiations

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On a 4-1 vote during a special meeting on Friday afternoon, the Branch County Board of Commissioners authorized County Administrator Bud Normal to enter into property negotiations concerning the tower for the 911 Communications Project which would be built south of Coldwater. The action came after the Commissioners went into a closed session for an hour to discuss land acquisition. Commissioner Jon Houtz motioned to have Norman, “represent the County in the best interest for land acquisition for the 911 towers and to bring back the best solution to the County Board.”
