GESD students go fully-remote today | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE All Gloversville Enlarged School District students will shift to fully-remote instruction today through the end of the week due to insufficient staffing levels as a result of quarantines related to new confirmed coronavirus cases. Superintendent David Halloran issued a statement on Sunday informing families of the shift to fully-remote instruction for all students after the district was notified that three staff members from Park Terrace Elementary School, one staff member from Boulevard Elementary School and one staff member from Gloversville Middle School tested positive for the coronavirus. Following contact tracing; the new confirmed positive cases will require two additional staff members at Park Terrace, one staff member and five students at Boulevard and 14 staff members and 26 students at the middle school to quarantine.

aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE A confirmed positive coronavirus case at Gloversville High School this week will require five staff members and 44 students to quarantine following contact tracing. According to a letter to families issued on Wednesday by Principal Richard DeMallie and Associate Principal Dennis Bye, school officials were notified by the infected individual of the confirmed positive test when they received their results on Tuesday. The individual who tested positive was last in the high school on Jan. 13 and was tested shortly after developing symptoms the following day. Gloversville Enlarged School District officials worked with the Fulton County Public Health Department to complete contact tracing and notify the impacted individuals. The five staff members and 44 students currently under quarantine will be able to return to school on Monday.

HFM BOCES shifts to fully remote | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Several HFM BOCES special education classes located at multiple buildings in Gloversville and Johnstown have temporarily shifted to fully remote instruction while staff members are under quarantine following coronavirus exposures. The district in a press release on Tuesday announced the shift to fully remote learning beginning that day for some special education classes while staff members are required to quarantine as a result of confirmed or probable exposures to the coronavirus. Currently all HFM BOCES special education classes located at the former Knox Junior High School in Johnstown have shifted to remote instruction through the end of this week. In-person instruction will resume on Monday.

Positive coronavirus case at Boulevard | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE A confirmed positive coronavirus case at Boulevard Elementary School will require more than 20 students and staff members to quarantine through the end of the week. Boulevard Principal Brian DiPasquale notified families of the confirmed positive case in a letter released online around noon Tuesday. School officials were reportedly informed on Saturday that a student had tested positive for the coronavirus. The student last attended school on Jan. 12 before developing symptoms the following day. The student was tested for the virus on Thursday after their symptoms did not improve. Gloversville Enlarged School District officials worked with the Fulton County Public Health Department to complete contact tracing.

COVID-19 at schools cause more quarantines | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE Students in one of the seventh-grade teams at Gloversville Middle School will receive fully remote instruction through the end of the week as 10 staff members are under quarantine following two confirmed positive coronavirus cases. The Gloversville Enlarged School District on Monday reported that one staff member at Gloversville Middle School and one staff member at Gloversville High School tested positive for the virus. Following those cases, six staff members and 19 students from the high school were required to quarantine due to possible exposure following contact tracing. No one from the middle school was required to quarantine.
