Parents urged to show interest in the content children watch

+ Parents have been urged to show a keen interest in the type of content their children post or watch on the internet and the various social media platforms. The Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Children, Mr Stephen Ofosu who made the call, said parents had a critical role to play in the kind of information their children assimilate from the internet. He advised parents to monitor and encourage the children to be circumspect when posting stuff on the internet. He was speaking at an outreach program in some schools and markets in Kumasi to mark this year’s Safer Internet Day celebration.

Ghana would today join other West African countries to celebrate the eighteenth African Safer Internet Day (ASID). The celebration under the auspices of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of the Ministry of Communications and UNICEF Ghana is aimed at raising awareness on emerging online issues and the corresponding strategies for resolution. The event is also expected to help sensitise and reorient children, young people, parents & guardians, and educators on the safe use of the internet while contributing to the capacity building and awareness generation for an improved cybersecurity culture among Ghanaians. The celebration, known in Africa as ASID is organised in the second week of February each year. It is tailor-made to suit the peculiar needs and conditions of the African region.

Zambia : Government saddened that Agencies tasked to Enforce COVID-19 Guidelines have stopped doing their Job

Government is saddened that agencies tasked to enforce Covid-19 measures have relaxed as most guidelines are not being implemented. Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Dora Siliya said Cabinet observed in its first meeting of 2021 held virtually, that measures announced by President Edgar Lungu to combat the spread of the Covid pandemic have not been seriously observed and implemented. “Cabinet Meeting observed that enforcement Agencies had relaxed and that most of the measures were not being implemented as announced by …the President”, said Ms Siliya. According to a press statement issued to ZANIS on Monday, Ms Siliya urged the general public to adhere to the announcement made by the President on the partial reopening of bars, taverns, and night clubs which were allowed to only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 18:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs.
