Northlines RN Bhaskar In March 2021, India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) took possession of a Rs 1.45 crore worth Delhi-based property belonging to Asha, wife of Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual assault case. It also seized a fixed deposit of Rs 2.07 lakh.   The ED filed a criminal case of money laundering against Thakur, his family members, and others in October 2018 after learning of sexual abuse of minor girls at the shelter house run by Thakur’s NGO.   The seizures were laughable considering that, according to the ED, “Thakur and others diverted and siphoned off the funds/grants-in-aid (of about Rs 7.57 crore) received for the welfare of girl children and others and used the funds for their personal gain.”

SC adjourns to April 19 hearing in case related to COVID-19 spread in children shelter homes

Supreme Court of India ANI | Updated: Apr 12, 2021 12:48 IST New Delhi [India], April 12 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned for April 19 hearing in a case taken by it suo moto relating to COVID-19 spread in children shelter homes across the country. A Bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice Vineet Saran adjourned the matter for next Monday as Justice Saran did not have relevant documents of the case. Amicus Curiae advocate Gaurav Agrawal, who is assisting the court in the case, said that he will ensure the documents are sent to the Bench. Earlier, the Bench had passed a slew of directions in the case and ordered all the state governments to provide necessary infrastructure, stationaries, books, and other equipment to Child Care Institutions for online classes on the basis of recommendation made by District Child Protection Units within 30 days.
