(KWNO)- Winona County Public Health announced a series of COVID-19 vaccine appointments for eligible residents that are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
The appointment-only clinics will be offered to residents who are part of the Phase 1b tier 2 and tier 3 priority groups at the East End Rec. Center in Winona. Appointment windows for Thursday, March 11 are 8 a.m. to noon and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Friday, March 12th appointment windows are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The following populations are able and encouraged to sign up for these clinics:
– Individuals Over 65
– Childcare Providers (Proof of Employment Required)

The Board of Selectmen budget meetings were held on Monday and Tuesday of this week. This coming Monday morning, the Board of Selectmen will take a vote on my proposed budget. My proposed budget includes a mill rate increase of 1.98%. This incorporates a $7.5 million dollar increase to the education budget, as well as $8 million dollars in spending that was supported by Town bodies to replenish the funds and accounts that were used to subsidize last year s 0% tax increase. This budget ensures the Town s long-term liabilities are fully funded. The education increase is the second highest in a decade. Currently, health care workers, child care providers, teachers, food and agriculture workers, and those over 65 years of age are eligible to receive a vaccine. The list will expand March 15. During a virtual meeting Friday, health state officials talked about the next group of people who will be eligible to receive the vaccine. “It’s based on the CDC list of conditions that put people at higher risk for severe covid 19 disease,” said Dr. Erica Pan, State Epidemiologist for California Department of Public Health. “Some of it, the criteria was clarified or narrowed bc there was a large number of people to work closely with our draft and guidelines workgroup to clarify and define that sublist a little bit further,” she continued.

Westport Human Service’s Department asks for community help
The Department of Human Services and the WWHD seek the community’s help in identifying residents who are experiencing technical difficulties scheduling their COVID-19 vaccination appointments or who require a home vaccination appointment. Seniors ages 65+ and individuals ages 55+ years old with disabilities who require local appointments or a home visit to receive their vaccine are invited to contact the Human Services Vaccine line at 203-341-5037 or email
