OGDENSBURG â The Diocese of Ogdensburg is once again being taken to court over child sex abuse claims.
The plaintiff, identified in court documents as C.C., filed suit last week in state Supreme Court in St. Lawrence County against the diocese and St. Peterâs Church in Plattsburgh. The suit was filed April 1.
The plaintiff is a resident of New York state, according to the complaint. It remains unclear how old the plaintiff is now, but the suit alleges the claimed actions began in 1968 when he was 4 years old.
âThe allegations are that the Diocese of Ogdensburg failed to protect our client from sexual abuse,â attorney Jeffrey M. Herman, who is representing the plaintiff, said in an email statement Wednesday. âI am determined to help this brave man share his story and begin the healing process. We are a voice for victims and our sole focus is to help victims heal by giving them a voice through filing a civil suit.â

Washington D.C., Mar 10, 2021 / 11:30 am (CNA).- A group of New York state senators is calling on state Gov. Andrew Cuomo to rescind an order requiring group homes for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to accept COVID-positive patients.
Cuomo had issued a controversial directive last year requiring nursing homes in the state to accept patients discharged from hospitals with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID. In January of this year, the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James said that the state undercounted the number of nursing home deaths by as much as 50%.
The March, 2020 directive on nursing homes was later rescinded in May, but a similar order remains in place for group homes for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, three Republican New York state senators told CNA.

âThis is the now the 22nd Anderson report that has been released to help identify perils in the communities, to help survivors know where they are and who they are, to identify those institutions and Catholic bishops across this country who have been complicit in allowing children to have been abused, and to do what we can with each survivor, one at a time to make sure that we are doing something today to protect kids tomorrow,â said attorney Jeff Anderson, founder of the law firm Jeff Anderson and Associates.
