On foot of today’s Dáil debate on the International Protection White Paper, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Law Reform, Equality and Integration Pa Daly TD, and Sinn Féin spokesperson on Children Kathleen Funchion TD, have outlined Sinn Féin’s position on ending Direct Provision and reforming the overall asylum system.
Teachta Daly said:
“There is much to commend in this White Paper. It builds on work done previously and is clear about what the issues are with the International Protection System and Direct Provision. At the same time, commitments need to be honoured in a number of areas.

Sinn Fein says a basic right to birth certificates is still denied to adopted people in Ireland, and has proposed a solution.
It s published leglisation that, if enacted, would give those people, including survivors of Mother and Baby Homes access to the documents.
The only requirements would be that the person is over 18 and pays any potential admin fee associated with it.

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Children Kathleen Funchion has described as ‘appalling and insensitive’ leaks from the Mother and Baby Homes report prior to survivors receiving the document.
Information from the report, which is due to be given to survivors on Tuesday, was leaked to a media outlet despite Government promises to ensure survivors would be given advanced sight of the report.
“I am absolutely appalled that key elements of the Mother and Baby Homes report have been leaked to the media today, before survivors and their families have seen the report, said Deputy Funchion.
