MARTINSBURG — Born and raised in the Mountain State, Karrington Childress said she always knew she would work with children in some capacity, and, while she strives to make that career a reality, she has taken every opportunity available to her to impact those around her in a positive way. A 19-year-old student at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, with plans to transfer to Shepherd University in the fall pursuing elementary education, Childress said she was always a high-energy and engaged child with a gentle heart and a strong desire to help those in need. “I have always wanted to help in any way that we could,” Childress said. “When I was little, if we passed someone in need, I would cry and beg to help, whether it be buying a hot meal for someone or donating money, because I felt so compelled to help.
