MOL Group and Mitsui E&S Machinery to Commence Joint Study to Introduce Hydrogen Fuel Port Cargo Handling Machineries
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. yesterday announced that it has agreed with Mitsui E&S Machinery, Ltd. (Mitsui E&S Machinery; President: Ichiro Tanaka; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) to commence joint study to introduce Hydrogen fuel port cargo handling machineries. As part of this agreement, MOL’s group company Shosen Koun Co., Ltd. (President: Hiroyuki Nakahi; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Kobe) has signed a contract for a new near zero emission (NZE) rubber-tired gantry (RTG) container yard crane and decided to introduce it at the MOL-operated Kobe International Container Terminal (KICT).

Today, as I take the helm from former President & CEO Junichiro Ikeda, I begin steering the management of the MOL Group, and I’m looking forward to working with you.

ONE Trials Biofuel Aboard Containership MOL Experience

Shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) said it has tested the use of biofuel to power the containership MOL Experience. The trial was completed on February 7, 2021, following bunkering at the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands in November 2020 and was performed in collaboration with shipowner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and sustainable biofuel company GoodFuels.
During the trial, the biofuel was blended with conventional fossil fuels enabling the 4,803 TEU MOL Experience to make its Atlantic crossings between Europe and the U.S.
(GoodFuels) Ocean Network Express (ONE) is pleased to announce the successful trial use of biofuel to power the M/V MOL Experience. The trial was completed on 7th February 2021, following bunkering at the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands in November 2020 and was performed in collaboration with shipowner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and leading sustainable biofuel pioneer GoodFuels.
During this first trial, the sustainable biofuel was blended with conventional fossil fuels enabling the M/V MOL Experience to make its Atlantic crossings between Europe and the USA. The success of the trial proves the viability of sustainable biofuels which will help ONE to meet its carbon reduction targets in 2030 and 2050 respectively.
