5 new cases of COVID-19; vaccinations this weekend

Five new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 315 tests performed April 14.
Three were identified through contact tracing, the Joint Information Center reported, and two reported recent travel history and were identified in quarantine.
Guam has had 7,856 officially reported cases of COVID-19. There have been 136 deaths and there are 42 cases in active isolation.

Driver in Talofofo Bay Overlook crash dies

A man whose vehicle ran off the roadway and over the cliff by the Talofofo Bay Overlook died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
A Jeep Cherokee Latitude was traveling east on Route 4 by Route 4A March 28 when the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a rock wall barrier by the Talofofo Bay Overlook, according to the Guam Police Department. The Jeep went over the cliff and landed within the private property below.
The 57-year-old man driving the Jeep was transported to Naval Hospital Guam and later was transferred to Guam Regional Medical City, Guam Police Department spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao said.
More than a dozen unemployed residents, “stuck” because they never finished high school and can’t effectively compete for jobs, are among those who will get help through community contributions paid by Guam Regional Medical City and the Tsubaki Tower.
The Guam Economic Development Authority on Monday announced the seven government and non-profit organizations who have been awarded a total of $303,275.40 to fund projects related to economic development, job training, and developing small businesses.
The money comes from the mandatory annual community contributions, paid by businesses that were issued tax-break qualifying certificates through GEDA.
GEDA used to keep most of that money for its own operations, but in 2019 started a new program that announces funding availability and provides an opportunity for agencies and non-profit groups to apply for grants to fund their eligible projects.
