SHAH ALAM: The main suspect who assaulted his bodyguards for fasting last week will be charged at the Klang and Kuala Lumpur Magistrate Court tomorrow.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal (pix) said the prosecution department chief of the Attorney-General’s Chambers agreed to charge the suspect under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by pointing a pistol at one of the victims.
He said the employer will also be charged under Section 109/304 of the same code for conspiring to order his assistant to cane the two victims. He also faces a charge under Section 323 of the same act for slapping and kneeing one of the victim in his abdomen.
ASIA Media Group (AMG) is likely to be in the spotlight for the near term, with the appointment of legal advisers and forensic auditors at the company.
According to AMG’s announcement to Bursa Malaysia, it had appointed law firm Krish Maniam & Co “to investigate the possibility of losses caused by certain individuals with decision-making powers prior to the entry of the current board of directors. Essentially, the review is linked to the write-downs and depreciation of the company’s assets and their whereabouts that directly and/or indirectly led to the current impairment and write-downs”.
AMG has estimated an initial RM103.2 million in impairment losses, which is sizeable considering that its market capitalisation at last Thursday’s close of 15 sen was only RM35.92 million.
PUTRAJAYA (Dec 28): The Federal Court here today reserved its decision on the final attempt by a ‘Datuk’ and two policemen for an immediate release from detention under the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959 in connection with an illegal online gambling syndicate.
A five-member panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat deferred the judgment on the appeal by businessman Zaidi Kanapiah or better known as “Datuk Addy Kana”, Corporal Muhamad Amin Nur Rashid Mohamed Puad and Corporal Mohd Hairy Mohammad, all aged between 34 and 39, after hearing submissions from both parties.
“We will CAV (curia advisari vult) the decision. We adjourn this case,” said Justice Tengku Maimun who presided the appeal with Federal Court Justices Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Datuk Zaleha Yusof, Datuk Seri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang.

SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 Kuala Selangor police managed to seize 3,395 cartons of duty- unpaid cigarettes of various brands worth about RM203,700 around the district yesterday.
Kuala Selangor district police chief, Supt Ramli Kasa in a statement today said, around 2 pm yesterday, police managed to arrest two local men in a van on the main road in front of the Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque, here.
“The two suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were the driver and passenger of the van and police inspection found 945 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes of various brands in the vehicle.
“Upon interrogating them during the inspection of the van led to the discovery of 2,450 cartons of cigarettes stored in a house belonging to one of the suspects in Kampung Pasir Tuntong, Bukit Rotan, near here on the same day.
