GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. In a step toward returning to normal, the Gwinnett County School District is partnering with Walmart, Atlanta Gladiators, and the Gladiators Foundation to help vaccinate more students and school staff.
“We’re proud to help accelerate the availability of vaccines in our communities, and we believe we can make a real difference by partnering with local organizations and school districts like Gwinnett County Public Schools to improve access to the vaccine,” said Nirmal Patel, Walmart’s Regional Health & Wellness Director for Georgia in a press release.

Once a school custodian, now she’s a teacher
ATLANTA Lies Toribio walks into a classroom at Bethesda Elementary, in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and sits in front of a laptop bearing a sticker: “dedicated teacher.”
Toribio, 41, teaches kindergartners in person and virtually, a challenging feat for someone in her first semester as a full-time teacher. But she’s jumped bigger hurdles at the school near Lilburn, where she was first hired 11 years ago as a custodian.

A Georgia momâs emotional plea at a school board meeting this month in the metro-Atlanta area to end a mask mandate has made waves nationwide.
A mother of three, Courtney Ann Taylor, petitioned the Gwinnett County Board of Education to âtake these masks off my childâ in a video that is circulating widely on social media.
âEvery month, I come here and hear the same things â social, emotional health,â Taylor said. âIf you truly mean that, you would end the mask requirement tonight.â
