Human Rights Society in appeal for soul of Kuwait in over-60 battle against expat age discrimination - ARAB TIMES

Messenger Statement by the Kuwait Society for Human Rights on the decision not to renew work permits for persons over 60 years old. KUWAIT CITY, April 21: Every now and then, we are surprised by decisions issued by the Public Authority for Manpower that do not take into account the humanitarian aspects of a country that is described as the center of humanitarian action throughout the world. “No renewal of work permits for those aged 60 and above from the general secondary holders and below” is the most prominent decisions of the Public Authority for Manpower, which deals with migrant labor in Kuwait, without regard to the fact that many migrants in the State of Kuwait have grown up therein and have lived there for the rest of their lives, as well as their sons and grandsons, and only a passport links them to their homelands, not to mention that many come from unstable countries and their exit may pose a real threat to their security and life.

End plan to expel over 60s expats - Abolish sponsorship system - ARAB TIMES

Messenger KUWAIT CITY, April 19: The Kuwait Society for Human Rights (KSHR) called for the cancellation of the decision to stop the renewal of work permits for expatriates who reached 60 years old and hold high school certificates or below, reports Al-Jarida daily. In a press statement, the society explained that the abovementioned decision should be rescinded; taking into consideration the constant threat to the livelihood of some migrant workers. The society also reiterated its call for the government to bear its responsibilities by abolishing the sponsorship system and implement an alternative system that protects the rights of everyone. “From time to time, PAM surprises us with decisions that do not take into account the humanitarian aspects. This happens in a country regarded as the International Humanitarian Center,” the society asserted.
