The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation has resumed using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration lifted their pause of the vaccine on April 23, determining that the vaccine is effective against COVID-19, and that its benefits outweigh its risks.
On April 12, the two federal agencies recommended health care workers pause injecting the vaccine. At that time, nearly 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had been administered. Six women under the age of 50 who received the vaccine developed a severe blood clot with low platelets; none of those cases occurred in Alaska.
BETHEL (AP) â The number of coronavirus cases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in Alaska is the lowest it has been since September.
In the last 14 days, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation has announced 47 cases of the coronavirus, KYUK-AM reported Friday.
The number of new cases in the area in the past two weeks is almost 20 times lower than it was during a two-week span between Nov. 22 and Dec. 4, the peak of coronavirus cases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
Coronavirus cases across the state have decreased since the new year. Vaccines were made available to all residents 16 or older in early March.
Last week, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation reported that over 60% of the region s eligible population had been vaccinated.

State beaches, historically Alabama’s top tourist draw, were shut down early in the pandemic but reopened as the summer travel season was beginning. “Baldwin County’s success is all the more remarkable when you factor in that the beaches were closed for six weeks in the spring and one week due to a hurricane in the fall,” said Judy Ryals, chair of the board that oversees the agency. Visitors spent more than $13 billion on ac
